Panchakarma is probably the oldest holistic way of cleansing and rejuvenating the human body in the world today. Targeting to set harmony with body’s natural process and rhythm, Panchakarma helps in recognizing body’s capability to heal itself. It is a kind of periodic rebalancing by restoring hormones, enzymes and other bodily equations.
The science of Panchakarma roots back its history to India’s platinum era when purification therapies were used as luxurious life-extending treatments. Ayurveda stresses the essentiality of Dinacharya (Daily Routine) as well as Ritucharya (Seasonal Routine). These are routines, if adopted correctly, help in prevention of various health ailments. They promote an ideal health and that is free from any signs and symptoms associated with diseases.
The perfect state of life can be gained only when there is a healthy coordination of the mind, body and soul. To achieve this wellbeing state, the science of life, Ayurveda, has described conceptual treatment called Shodhana Chikitsa (detoxifying the body), Shamana Chikitsa (alleviating the body) & Rasayana Chikitsa (rejuvenating the body). Panchakarma is most important chikitsa (therapy) that is performed to keep body systems in their best possible health.
Let us look at the main benefit described in Holy Text of Ayurveda (Charaka Samhita) that dates back approximately 2500 years.
“An individual adopting Panchakarma can attain longevity, cognition, intelligence and freedom from various health ailments. There will be youthfulness, excellence of luster, and improved complexion and voice. Panchakarma, if performed correctly, can get the human body excellently working sense organs and a capability to speak the words that would come true with brilliance.”
Panchakarma is noticed to improve strength, longevity, immune system and virility. It helps to prevent forthcoming diseases and may also serve as anti aging therapy.
The Panchakarma literally means Pancha (means five) and Karma (means therapies or act). They are –
Vaman (medicine induced emesis),
2. Virechana (medicine induced purgation),
3. Basti or Vasthi (medicated enema),
4. Nasya (errhine or Nasal pouring), and
5. Raktamokshana (Blood Letting)
The Panchakarma is to be performed with pre and post treatment care i.e. Purvakarma-Paschatkarma respectively.
Cleansing and revitalization are two main focuses of Panchakarma. An energetic, radiant vernal body, mind and soul is the result of biopscyhic state that has been purified of toxins and other harmful materials. The cells and tissues should be free from any blockages before nutrients can be totally absorbed and wastage is decently eliminated. Once the body systems are freed from harmful substances like chemicals, air and water pollutants, damaged cells, toxins (come from junk food, acidic residues, and undigested fats) and other biochemical waste, revitalization becomes a living realism.
Panchakarma naturally returns the body cells their enthusiasm, energy and youthfulness. It may help in regenerating cells so that they are empowered by life force from the healthy diet and lifestyle.
